For a long time, the IG has fascinated human with its human way of being, beautiful silhouette, its huge intelligence and fantastic beauty. This is a breed that goes all the way back to queen Cleopatra, who presented the breed to the Roman Empire. The Italian Greyhound was for many years used as a nice gift between royalty and courts, and was not allowed to be bought or bred by anybody else but royalty.

This elegant little creature has also been used to hunt together with falcons, where the dog scared up the bird, and the falcon caught it.

So why is it called Italian Greyhound? The reason is that Italy was first with presenting a standard for the breed, and so this became its home country. Our own, personal, opinion, is that the breed really comes from Egypt and was introduced to Rome and Italy through Cleopatra and Caesar.

The Italian Greyhound is the most elegant of all breeds and is mostly used as a companion dog. What is so special about this breed then? Well, it’s very intelligent, human, easy to bring everywhere and wants a lot of love and attention from its owner. It’s easily hurt by harsh words. As owner of an Italian Greyhound, you are privileged in all ways, and you could say that an IG is a mix between a dog, a cat and a … Only you who have an IG can fill that empty space with something fitting…

This shorthaired breed never smells like dog and it enjoys sun and heat in all formats. It’s intelligent and a good learner, and out of the day’s 24 hours, it wants to spend at least 20 of those close to its owner.
